Patrick Jones

23 December 1926 - 5 January 2012
A truly gentle man.
In Loving Memory of Patrick Jones (1926 - 2012)

Born: 23.12.1926 in Salisbury, Wiltshire
Died: 5.1.2012 at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital, Dorset
Father to Nikola Sarah (1963)
Brother to Mary, Uncle to Robert and Suzanne.

Originally from Staffordshire, he suffered badly from asthma as a child which was exacerbated by the Potteries so was sent by his family to live with his two maiden Aunts, who owned and ran the Albany Hotel on the banks of the river Avon in Fordingbridge, Hampshire.

After a short stint in the Army at the tail end of the War he began his working life as a Bank Clerk in the town. He moved to Bournemouth and whilst working in the office at Fortes, studied accountancy in college two days a week before qualifying and forging a career within the Accounts department of the Bournemouth and District Water Company which was based at Wallisdown (now SembCorp).

A conservative councillor for the Bourne Valley ward in Poole, he served his constituents from May 1976 until his retirement in May 1995.

My father was a committed Christian and was church warden at St Johns Church, Surrey Rd for more than 20 years. He put together the parish newsletter in the 1970s, my mother contributing the artwork for the cover. At one point, Daddy considered becoming ordained but decided not to in favour of keeping the family local to the Bournemouth area.

I can think of no better way to describe him than as  a truly gentle man.

I love and miss you, Daddy x
